Most parents week received those pieces of paper which state how their children performed in accordance with a standardised model of testing all children on their capabilities to perform standardised tasks… and once again a reminder of the classic cartoon strip…
You know – the one where there are seven or eight different animals (monkey, dog, fish-in-a-bowl, bird, elephant …) standing in front of a teachers deck in the middle of the bush with a solemn tree behind them, and the teacher states – “For today’s exam you will have to climb a tree…”
In the past 100+ years, everything around us has been improved. We have found and developed new ways to do everyday general things which we cannot live without… yet our education system is still based on training individuals to comply with a revolution that has almost completely faded out of existence in our modern society…
Did you know the classrooms as we know them today is the same as it was when ‘formal’ education was introduced for all children at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution… to be trained to sit in rows (specific order – always the same seat, every day) listen and completing specific instructions, in a set time, to be repeated daily and only be interpreted by a ringing bell to advise on the break times… Thank you, Mr Rockefeller & friends
And although so many things have changed, children in mainstream formal education are still taught information which has been scientifically proven incorrect 10/15 years ago, they are still not taught being taught how to build and manage wealth … yet society accepts these same children to walk out of school and be able to contribute to society.
And to think, these poor children also expect that there will be some sort of J.O.B. waiting for them when they are finished with school… yet for so many, this turns into a nightmare, instead of the dream they thought it was going to be.
Yet when we look back into history today, we can clearly see how previous generations taught their children and where the masters and gurus were different… and still we continue on a path of one-size-fits-all. Maybe we should really rethink this approach…
I sincerely hope that when the following generations look back at their history, they are able to see that we as humans are capable of learning from our own history and we can effectively implement changes in our education systems to suit the needs of the next generation … thus providing them with the advantage of a new foundation to build on – instead of crumbling ruins which they must try to mend and fix just to try to keep the roof up and the lights on…
For those who have already gone through our current education system – I bid you, to continue your self-education by any means possible… for education provides you with knowledge and once knowledge is implemented it becomes a power in your own hands!
